Why stress is a modern problem.

Our problem is that our bodies are not designed for the types of stress we encounter in modern civilised life. The human species has existed for three thousand generations. For ninety-five per cent of that time span, our ancestors led simple lives, in which survival was achieved through strenuous physical exertion. They lived in a different world- yet our bodies are no different to theirs.

When we encounter stress, our adrenal glands pump adrenaline into our blood. This hormone prepares our body for "fight or flight". Our body expects us to react to situations by running away, climbing up a tree, or hitting someone! But  in a civilised society  this is unacceptable. The adrenaline builds up and damages our bodies from inside.

How hypnotherapy can help.

  In hypnotherapy a natural deep relaxation occurs. Clients can learn to induce this relaxation for themselves at any time they need it, using a simple technique. Unlike drug-induced relaxation, this natural calm does not impair the ability to deal with real dangers or emergencies.
