Choosing a Hypnotherapist

There are several things to think about when choosing a hypnotherapist.

REPUTATION. Many people come to me through personal recommendations from family and friends. I’ve been doing hypnotherapy in Plymouth since 1994 so I’ve seen thousands of people. However, many people are still embarrassed to disclose that they have needed to see a hypnotherapist. Recently I’ve started to invite clients to review my practice online. FREE INITIAL CONSULTATION. Like most hypnotherapists I invite clients to visit for a free initial consultation before beginning hypnotherapy. At this half hour meeting they can ask any questions, and I can decide whether I can help them. Many clients visit two or three hypnotherapists before deciding. This is a good idea, because you need to feel comfortable with the therapist, and you can only know that if you’ve met them.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATION. At present anyone can legally call themselves a hypnotherapist. For this reason you need to check that your hypnotherapist is properly trained, not only in hypnosis techniques but also in psychotherapy and psychology. Plymouth is not a wealthy city so most clients need to consider how much they can afford to pay for hypnotherapy. My own fees are £35 per session, payable by cash or cheque at each session. Where necessary, individually recorded CDs are supplied at no extra charge.

LOCATION. My office is centrally located on the main road near the city centre (see “Location and Payment” for a map.) There is a paying car park nearby. The building is shared with other offices and a hairdressing salon. There is one flight of steps up to the office. If you arrive early and find my office door closed, that means I’m still with the previous client. There are seats on the landing where you can wait.
